I attempted to free my desk from ugly computer cables the cheapest possible way and I had a hard time trying.
Everything is so easy IF (the big I-F) you are loaded with cash – get one Apple Cinematic Display that blends perfectly with the macbook; wireless keyboard; bluetooth mouse and iphone dock speakers and whosh… a blardy neat desktop.
Too bad, got to go the cheap way.
IKEA is your best friend when it comes to home organisation. They came up with this series ‘SIGNUM’ that is meant for desktop/cable management. I saw in the paper-brochure this particular box that lets you hide your cables – looks small and useable. About two weeks ago I went IKEA with babe and I could not find this product, I thought it was new and they haven stock in yet. Today, my bro said he was going IKEA to get some boxes and I asked him to check for me. He came home with this huge plastic thingy and I was like “WAH PIANG SO BIG”. My bro was right, he said I couldn’t find it because I didn’t expect it to be so big.

See. It is the width of my huge desk.
Had to crack my brains to think of a way to arrange it nicely and it took me quite a while. In the end, I decided to remove my speakers and put them back with my TV. Now I have to open up my macbook for sound.
Not perfect. But I think it is much neater.
From the front back front front, it looks good =)
Now my computers occupies half of my desk.
Will see if I can make any improvements next time.

thanks for the info, i should pay ikea a visit soon…
my chassis currently seats behind the 22″ with all the cables bundled & cable-tied behind.
neat on the desk, but super messy behind the chassis area =(
There are quite a few other cable management products there… But this particular one does a good job at hiding the cables and its squarish – good if you intend to place it near a corner of your wall.
Enjoy your trip to IKEA =D
